Of course, it’s probably going to get a little too hot for comfort once the temperatures peak. So when it gets stinking hot, where do you go to cool off? Well, the following are some great spots for staying cool during the summer in Australia:
- The Great Ocean Road
The Great Ocean road is a gorgeous area that is well known for beautiful views and spectacular destinations. It’s a fabulous spot to visit when you’re travelling in the summer and just need to cool off. There are several different beaches to visit along the way. Torquay Beach, Anglesea Beach, Bells Beach, and the 12 Apostles are all amazing places to visit while in the area. From surfing to breathtaking views, there are plenty of reasons to travel on the Great Ocean Road to these beach destinations.
- 75 Mile Beach
When there never seems to be enough beach for you, visit the 75 Mile Beach. From driving in a 4WD to see the beauty to walks and landing in an airplane, 75 Mile Beach is a gorgeous strip of sand and water on Fraser Island in Queensland. Just be aware that you may only want to wade into the water, as sharks call this place their home. Also, the currents are pretty rough during certain times of the year. Some highlights are Indian Head and the Maheno Shipwreck.
- Hyams Beach
If you’re looking for clear water that you can wade in and sand that is as white as can be, don’t hesitate to visit Hyams Beach. It’s a great spot for relaxing and swimming with the kids. It’s Australia’s version of paradise and it’s definitely a place that you’ll want to include on your itinerary while traveling in a campervan hire.
- Laughing Waters
A fitting name for a great place to cool off, Laughing Waters is a set of water pools near Eltham. Surrounded by the bush with water rapids nearby, this is a fun spot for relaxing in nature and for getting a glimpse of Australian nature. If you’re traveling with children, Laughing Waters is an ideal location for water fun that isn’t a beach. But, as with any river rapids, exercise caution with them.
- Figure Eight Pools
It isn’t the safest place to go and you shouldn’t try to visit with kids, but if you’re up to adventure, try exploring the area and go to Figure Eight Pools. These pools are gorgeous and fun to sit in, plus they look pretty cool! Just be careful to only visit in low-tide and to be cautious when walking in the area. Make sure to check conditions before going to avoid having to get air-lifted out of the area.
- Gunlom Infinity Pools
This natural “infinity” pool is gorgeous, cool, and will reward you with stunning views of the scenery below. You can hike up to the Gunlom Infinity pools at Gunlom Falls and find a place to cool off after putting in some effort.
